Cork Menopause Clinic was established to help anyone concerned or troubled by menopause / perimenopause symptoms and effects. It is open to patients referred from other GPs/Consultants*. We operate on an appointment only basis.
*excepting registered patients of Blackrock Medical Centre who should make an enquiry to Mary Andrews in the first instance.
What Does A Consultation Entail?
Depending on the complexity of each case and clinical need, the overall time at the Clinic can vary. However, first-time patients should allow a minimum of 1 hour for an appointment. A full first-time menopause consultation covers the following:
- A thorough, detailed medical history-taking exercise incorporating presenting symptoms, quality of life assessment, cancer risk and contraception;
- A clinical examination including breast and pelvis, if indicated;
- Blood tests (preferably fasting) including hormone profile, if indicated;
- Fracture & osteoporosis risk assessment;
- Lifestyle review and advice;
- Discussion regarding individual benefits and risks of HRT / other treatments;
- Prescription for HRT, if indicated;
- Management & follow-up plan.
Fees
A first visit to Cork Menopause Clinic costs €400 which includes:
- An extended, in-depth consultation with Dr O’Driscoll (40 to 60 minutes).
- Any examinations, including bloods, if indicated.
- Any referrals for diagnostics, if indicated.
- Any prescriptions required.
- A follow-up/review appointment at 6 weeks by phone.
- A discharge letter back to your own GP with management plan.
A €150 deposit is required to secure a first visit which is offset from the overall cost.
Requests for additional consultations outside of the above are charged at a rate of €150 for a physical visit or €70 for a phone consult.
